Construction

asa Bosque is the physical manifestation of a dream come true for Cristian Becker and Claudia Queirolo, founders of Casa Bosque, and carried out by artist Sergio Andrade, who between 1998 and 2000 directed its construction with audacity and a unique vision. It stands out for its innovative construction technique by reusing more than 8,600 discarded tires, used to form walls that were then covered with adobe, creating unique curved interior spaces. The wood used corresponds to fallen cypress trees from the coastal area of Cahuil, personally worked by the artist. Elements of old locomotives – steam tractors from sawmills of the 1800s – are integrated in multiple parts of the restaurant, especially in the bases of the main pillars, giving it a unique character. Each stone, lovingly worked by local craftsmen, tells the story of a construction that breaks the mold and harmonizes with the surrounding nature.
Since its inception, sustainability became an essential part of Casa Bosque’s DNA, which we continue today with initiatives such as:
- Recycled glasses: More than 90% of our glasses correspond to recycled glasses from our bottles. These are elaborated with personalized designs by votella.cl.
- Organic waste composting: All of our organic waste is composted by Ekologic, a Cajón del Maipo-based company.
- Water treatment for irrigation: We have a wastewater treatment plant, where we obtain water for tree irrigation.
- Solar Energy: We built a solar plant with batteries in our parking lots in front of the restaurant, to supply all of Casa Bosque with renewable energy.
- No single-use products: In 2025 we will stop using all single-use products at Casa Bosque, more than a year ahead of Chilean legislation.
- Compostable material: Garbage bags and take-out containers are made of compostable materials, thus contributing to more sustainable waste management.
- Efficient lighting and water use: All our lights are led, energy efficient certified and all our water faucets have energy efficient dispensers.
Snakehead
Numerous symbols and artistic details are hidden in Casa Bosque, among them the “serpent’s head”. This work was sculpted in cypress wood by Sergio Andrade, evoking the image of a serpent or dragon that captivates those who discover it.
